John Maine NOT in All Star Game?

I can't believe that John Maine was overlooked for a spot on the All-Star roster. Smoltz is out, so Maine should be in: End of story. His performance has been stellar all year, and especially in the last couple of games.
I realize that the entire All-Star team can't be loaded down with Mets, but let's be honest. The idea that all of the MLB teams have to be represented is representative of what is wrong with society today. "We don't want to hurt the feelings of the teams not being represented....We don't want to make players not icked to feel bad about themselves".
Not everyone is an All-Star, not all of the teams in the MLB have players that are worth being in the All-Star game. That's just the hard facts.
If we picked the rosters based on talent, and not the "cute smile" factor that often happens, you'd have a more competative game. Now that the game matters, the selected managers should be able to stack the team with the best players in order to secure home team advantage.
My feeling is that the starting lineup should be picked by the fans, and the remainder of the roster should be either picked by the sports writers or the managers of the MLB teams.

Oswalt

According to the Mets announcers during Thursday night's game, Oswalt got more votes then Maine in some kind of poll. (Maybe a player's poll?) They acknowledged that Maine has better numbers this season so far, but the All-Star game isn't just about numbers. (Otherwise fans wouldn't need to vote.)
I don't think Maine was "overlooked" because "all MLB teams have to be represented".
I also don't think it's bad that Maine gets some extra rest. It might be exciting for him to be there, but as a Mets fan all I care about is that he doesn't get injured and is able to pick up as many "W"s as possible for us.

The heck with the All-Star

The heck with the All-Star game. The fact that Bonds is starting makes it a real joke. Its a cash cow for MLB so its nothing close to being about the fans being able to see the best players.

Once again the Mets don't get respect. Let's go out and kick butt the rest of the way so our guys can get the respect from the championship ring.

I don't think the MLB

I don't think the MLB Corporation's definition of "all-star" is consistent with yours, sarge. To you and me, an all-star is someone with the best talent that guts it out on the field every day, whose performance numbers reflect their effort. To Major League Baseball Incorporated, "all-star" means those players that will bring in the sponsors and the ratings. They don't expect anybody to actually watch the game past the fourth inning anyway.

If John Maine ever wants to make the All-Star Game he will need an agent that is a promoter. Perhaps he will need to cut a rap single, or be caught with some prostitute somewhere, or become an Evangelist or something that puts him in the headlines. He's just a meek guy that shows up to pitch and blows batters away and doesn't like to talk to the press very much.

Caught with a Prostitute....HAHAHAH!

That made me laugh out loud.

I think the coolest thing about the current crop of METS talent is that they aren't (and i don't mean this to be a slam) the Bad Boys from '86.

They do their headline making on the field and between the lines, instead of doing lines and ending up on the field (ala Straw).

John Maine, David Wright, Jose Reyes et al are the type of guys that you actually wouldn't mind dating your sister (or in my case, my 21 year old daughter). You could trust them!

LET'S GO METS!
