Stumbling Towards Nowhere

Where do we begin with this team? In a post last month titled Consistently Inconsistent I lamented the same things I feel today.

One day our pitching does us in. The next day the hitting fails us. Sometimes we have problems with starting pitching. Other times its the bullpen. Consistently inconsistent.

Yesterday afternoon's game was a textbook case for what this team is capable of (or not) this season. Mike Pelfrey comes around and throws a gem into the eighth inning. Mets pitching gives up a single run. And the offense can't do a thing. The gane before the bullpen collapses. In the first game of the series all the pitching failed us but we scored some runs. It all adds up to a .500 ball club.

The three and four record on this past homestand is a disgrace. We were playing the Reds and the Nationals. The Mets should have won at least five games. Five games should have been a breeze. Three wins is a joke.

There's really no way to spin this. The Mets are a sub-par team. None of the hype about getting Santana matters. None of the hype about the new stadium matters. The record speaks for itself. As a longtime fan I am sorely disappointed.

I find it very hard to get up for the series that starts against the Yankees tonight. Normally I'd be brimming with anticipation. Right now I just want to see this team put together a string of wins. And I don't care who those wins come against.

Rob, I'm a high school so I

Rob, I'm a high school so I don't have as many dissappointing seasons in me as some of the other forumers, but I don't think a negative attitude or thousands of fans constantly booing will make this team better. Then again, cheering probably won't either. We won the game today against the Skankees, but for some stupid reason, Santana finds it neccessary to give up 3 or 4 jacks today and it wasn't the first time that has happened. I don't know what to say except that "hey, at least we are still in contention. We aren't done yet, not even close."

Guys, we can still do this, we are not even half-way through the season. We choked second half last season after a great start...who is to say it won't be the opposite this year?
