Praying For Maine

All of a sudden the bats come alive yesterday. Combined with a stellar performance by John Maine the Mets are able to eke out a 3-3 West Coast road trip. The Mets should have done better. Tuesday's game was well within reach given the number of opportunities. Had the Mets won that game I think we could have called the trip a success.

Meanwhile John Maine continues to show me that he is maturing even as Oliver Perez is collapsing on us. Thank heavens for Maine and Johan Santana. We'd be down with the Nats if it wasn't for those two guys and Ryan Church. Speaking of Ryan Church. I'm going to talk about him on the next podcast. He has been a revelation so far and definitely the biggest surprise of the season for me.

John Maine - what a star!

Well, after a couple of not great days, John Maine really did pitch a blinder. Hopefully that gives the whole team a lift; it certainly gave the bullpen a rest. I think I'd have settled for a split roadtrip, especially given the form both the D-Backs and the Dodgers were in, and the form we were in. There are some positives to grasp, and I agree with you Rob that one of them is Ryan Church. He could sew up the right field for a very long time the way he's playing at the moment. An impressive start to his Mets days - long may it continue. The weekend games promise to be very interesting, because I think there may be the chance of starting a bit of a run going. Then again, we'll probably make a mess of it, and lose the series...Hey ho, at least it's never dull!
