Delgado Provides A Glimmer Of Hope

A couple of days ago Carlos Delgado was on his way out. After yesterday he may just be on his way back in. I'm hoping the new groove sticks because our replacement options are dwindling fast.
"WE know how this ends for Carlos Delgado Carlos Delgado with the Mets New York Mets . We might not know the exact date or the exact term, be it designated for assignment or outright release, but we see the bread crumbs now heading toward the exit." Joel Sherman - NY Post
Carlos' two home runs helped lift the Mets over John Smoltz and the Braves. More importantly, the performance throws a little water on the idea that the Mets should replace Delgado at first with either Moises Alou or Ryan Church. That idea has been getting a lot of talk but recent events with Alou make the move less likely.
Alou is currently experiencing pain and swelling in his ankle after playing in a rehab start last Friday. Consider the timetable on Moises reset until the new problem is fully diagnosed. He could be gone for good.
"Mets general manager Omar Minaya acknowledged on Sunday morning that a minor fracture of a bone in the ankle could be the cause of the pain and swelling Alou began to experience on Friday, the morning after he had played in a Florida State League game for the first time." MLB.com Story
If the Mets want to make a move regarding Delgado now it will get a bit trickier. They could start Endy Chavez in left field, move Angel Pagan to right field and switch Church to first base. But that would severely weaken the bench. And if you believe that Endy is not durable enough to be an everyday starter then the scenario gets a little worse.
So maybe it's time to stop ruminating about all the difference ways we can shuffle Carlos Delgado off to Buffalo. I believe it's time to start hoping and praying that Carlos continues to get back into the groove. We need his bat, and a number of others frankly, to wake up now because the alternatives don't look so good anymore.
