On this episode I talk about who should stay and who should go for 2008. Also cover some Mets news. A-Rod To The Yanks. Catcher Yorvit Torrealba not coming to the Mets. Ramon Castro re-signed. Mets now looking at David Eckstein for second base.

Luis Castillo Returns

I guess I missed out on this one since I really didn't consider Castillo when talking in the podcast. I liked what he brought to the 2B position but his knee problems gave me some pause on considering him for the everyday slot in 2008.

The Mets must feel confident since they have reportedly signed him to a four-year deal. A physical is pending so if the knee doesn't pass we may still see interest in David Eckstein.

Mota's gone and I guess so is Doca

Based on the headline of the Mets trading Mota for Estrada.

Looks like the Mets listened to your podcast:)

It's about time we got rid

It's about time we got rid of Mota. I feel just a little better today.

I'd love to know what Lo Duca did to anger the Mets management. Looking at Estrada's numbers and his health situation (recent knee surgery) I don't see how he is an upgrade.

MY (fake) take on Duca

The Mets got rid of Duca because he tried too hard in 2007. You see the Mets felt that they were so good and so much better than any other team, that they didn't have to try to win. By Duca trying he demonstrated his lack of belief in the talent of the Mets, thus giving their opponents confidence to try winning the game. Getting rid of Duca and bringing in someone who doesn't give a darn is essential to the Mets future success.

Good take Alar. I think that

Good take Alar. I think that the serious reason may have to do with the fact that Lo Duca wants a longer term contract than the Mets are willing to offer. And maybe his gambling and on field outbursts are icing on the cake. Who knows though. Estrada doesn't seem to be a lock to even stay with the Mets. So the Mets might need to bring Paul back regardless.
