There Are No Moral Victories

The collapse of the pitching yesterday was a disappointing one. In general you knew we had to have a poor outing one of these days. The bats came alive but couldn't bring the Mets all the way back.

I'm feeling a bit bummed on the state of the team right now. We're in the worst slide of the season right now. Two of three losses to the streaking Diamondbacks. Swept in three games by the Phillies. Now we've got a rubber game in Detroit.

Meanwhile, across town the Yanks appear to be gaining some steam. Not good news for the upcoming series. The Yanks are gaining confidence while the Mets are treading water at best.

Injuries have played a part in reducing the effectiveness of the Met lineup. We really need to get Shawn Green, Endy Chavez and Moises Alou back. Things were working well with those guys in the lineup.

We still have Jose Reyes, Carlos Beltran, Carlos Delgado and David Wright in the lineup though. These guys are impact players and they need to start bringing their 'A' games every day. Reyes had a two-run single yesterday. Then he got picked off and killed the rest of the rally.

The well has seemingly gone dry on the surprising prospects too. David Newhan was ineffective and replaced by career journeyman Ricky Ledee. Ben Johnson has been less than impressive. Carlos Gomez started strong but has shown poor judgment in the field and a lack of patience at the plate.

The team needs a good kick in the butt right now. Maybe Willie needs to go out and get tossed to put a fire into the team. Seven runs are great. But we need wins now more than anything.

It was rough... the only 3

It was rough... the only 3 pitchers to show up this weekend were Sosa, Wagner and Sele... all the others just didn't have their A games.. This proved to be a huge problem as the Tigers are a good hitting team... David Wright is on fire lately.. Homered in all 3 games during the series.... Beltran is in a bad funk and it's really hurting the team... We need him to get back to early season form... and what's with the Mets calling up Ledee... Is something wrong with Milledge? That's the only reason I can see for them to call Ledee up and not him.. Gomez, though showed many flaws in his game this weekend, showed promise with 2 great plays in friday's games and a 3 run HR in sunday's game... gotta remember he's only 21 and needs some more time to get better
