Old And Young

A real showcase of the old and the young over the last few games for the Mets.
On the one hand we have the likes of Tom Glavine, Julio Franco and El Duque Hernandez.
On the other hand we have the likes of Mike Pelfrey, Jose Reyes and David Wright.
Here's the wild thing. All of these players are supremely important for us and have the ability to contribute in a major way. Don't underestimate the value of Julio Franco coming off the bench. The Mets have had classic pinch hitters like Ed Kranepool, Rusty Staub and Lenny Harris over the years. Heck you could even put Melvin Mora in that category albeit temporarily.
We need Julio to deliver those clutch hits. It just so happens that he's 48 years old.
Some might say the Mets are too old. We'll they're only too old if these old guys fail to produce.
Julio Franco produced on Friday night. Tom Glavine produced in his last outing. El Duque failed to produce today but that's going to happen. Did anyone think he'd be 10-2 at the all star break?
This 2007 team is very interesting. There are a myriad of story possibilities here. Half the fun will be discovering which players, young and old, will create great story lines this season.
