Sinkerballer Impresses Early

The New York Post is running a story today on sinkerballer Joe Smith.
Joe is a 23 year old non-roster invitee to the Mets who is showing some early promise as a candidate to work out of the pen this season. Smith pitched in the Mets minor league system last season with mixed results. According to the story, "When Smith went to the minors last season, he posted an 0.45 ERA in 17 games with Single-A Brooklyn (he struck out 28 in 20 innings) before pitching 10 games with Double-A Binghamton and notching a 5.68 ERA in 12.2 innings."
I'll be keeping an eye on Smith as a possible replacement for Chad Bradford in the bullpen. At this point we'll need all the help we can get.
