So Long Victor

Good riddance Victor. You never did anything good for the Mets. I was a little concerned that we might be fooled into taking him back for spring training. Thank heavens we didn't.

Am I wrong or does this not mark the end of that horrendous Scott Kazmir deal?

News: Zambrano To Jays

Why the animosity?

Rob, I think you are holding Victor Zambrano responsible for us not having Kazmir on our staff for the last two seasons. When we acquired him, Zambrano had a career record of 46-34 and an ERA in the low 4's. He had a good break to his sinker and Duquette thought he was worth gambling on by offering an unproven prospect (who at the time was a .500 pitcher in the Mets minor league organization if I remember correctly.) Despite the fact that he was playing hurt, I think Zambrano was a pretty effective pitcher for us at times but was saddled with the fact that he ended up being the short side of a trade.

Back in the 70's we never held Jim Fregosi responsible for the Mets not having Nolan Ryan. Closer to your memory, we never blamed Juan Samuel for losing us Lenny Dykstra and Roger McDowell, did we? Or blame Danny Heep for Mike Scott nearly destroying our hopes in 1986? I hoped that the Mets would give him a shot this season, at least in the minors, as I think he had something to prove to us.

So I'm not as joyful at this news as you are, and will be sadder if he turns into a winning pitcher elsewhere. But at least now maybe we can stop talking about Scott Kazmir, OK?

The Mets are gonna be amazing.

He didn't do anything for us

He didn't do anything for us and probably never will.
I'm glad he is gone. He's far away from us now and this does end that whole Kazmir bit.
Maybe he'll end up bein a Yankee killer. Thats an upside.
