Play Ball!

Hiho! It is the day we have been awaiting for six months. Clean slate. No more hot stove conjecture, no more dwelling on a historic collapse, no more wondering about what kind of team we are going to field. It's here!

I have been thinking about opening day for a few weeks now. It always makes me feel like a kid again, when this whole drama is about to unfold before you and you just can't wait to be take along for the ride. Take me, Mets. Just make it a fun one, OK?

Will Santana be the miracle worker we need him to be? Will Jose find his spark? Will Wright pick up the leadership mantle? Will Delgado have the turnaround year we all hope for? Will Pedro be healthy? Will Ollie bring his best to each game? Will Maine perform as we know him to be capable? Will Hernandez crack the squad this year? Will Pelfrey perform acceptably?

What about the bullpen? Can Wagner walk the walk in addition to talking the talk? Can Heilman bounce back? Which Pedro Feliciano will show up? Which Joe Smith?

Can Castillo's knees hang in there? Can Beltran's? Can Moises stay healthy enough to contribute? What do we make of the newcomers, Schneider and Church? Can they plug the holes left by some beloved Mets who have gone elsewhere?

I'm excited to find out the answers, and to see what additional questions develop. Happy April everybody! LET'S GO METS!!!
