The Bullpen...Again...and again....and again...

English Met from Manchester's picture

Second day running, and the bullpen have succeeded in making it nigh on impossible to catch a slender lead. Jorge Sosa last night was a disaster - a 30 pitch inning? Why didn't Willie pull him before the Kelly Johnson at-bat - he was obviously thinking it, after the meeting on the mound with Rick Peterson. That ended that game... and here I am watching live as Aaron Heilman blows it again, after we had kept it tight. I know there 3 outs left, but let's face it, there is no run support today anyway, so a difficult pull back has just become impossible. Santana pitches well, leaves just 6 outs to go and watches the bullpen blow it. Is the reminding us of anything? Have the lessons of last year not been learned? Really annoyed - our momentum has gone before it's even started, and the Braves have faced down Santana, removing some of the fear factor right at the beginning to a tough divisional rival.

It's early in the season so

It's early in the season so I'm not going to get too bent out of shape over this loss. Make no mistake. I'm not happy. Here we've got a top tier starter performing as advertised and the bats go cold, wasting an excellent performance.

Heilman was bad. You can't give up a three run homer in that spot. The game was very close until then and that play really hurt. Where were the bats though?

At the end of the day I think that the more important issue involves the lineup's inability to put runs on the board.
