Goin down south for Pelfrey

Today is mothers day so Happy Mothers Day all if it applies, if it does not, than to yours.

Today was the rubber game of the Brewers series with Oliver Perez on the mound. It was an exciting pitchers duel for the first 10 seconds before the Mets proved why they had the most dominant lineup in the National League.
The Mets beat the Brewers 9-1 with Easley having a 4 rbi day with his 5th homerun as well. Beltran blasted one deep and Wright stole 3 bases.

The bigger news was that Perez pitched like the dominant Ollie we know and love. He allowed only one hit in 8 1/3 innings before giving up a solo blast to Hall. He had good control and he struck out a bunch which is good cause we will need him just like this his next start Friday against the Yankees.

The Biggest news however was the news of Mike Pelfrey going down to AAA. He will be working on his stuff down there. We called up in his spot Carlos Gomez. Gomez was terrific in his debut hitting a double in his first major league at-bat and later a single. He scored twice and stole a base. With Alou likly heading to the DL Gomez will get to start a couple of games and keep a close eye on him cause you never know when he will take over that job.

No-one knows who will start Thursday for the Mets when Pelfrey normally would have. Sele,Vargas,(deep breath)Park, or hey why not Lima. I jest. I jest.

Cliff Floyd makes his return to Shea when the Cubbies come to town Mon-Thursday. It would be awsome to take 3 this series before the Yanks come to town.

I don't think Alou has to

I don't think Alou has to worry about losing his job. He has been doing exactly what he was hired to do and more - keep rallies alive with the most solid bat in the six-spot of any team in the majors. His fielding and base-running have been spot-on, and he adds to the team aura of competence and dominance through his sheer experience in the game. We all knew he would be good for about 110 - 120 games so we shouldn't be surprised that he needs a break for a few games in May.

Gomez will do fine in a fill-in role but I expect we will need to take back his roster spot with a #5 starter when Alou gets back. Shame about Pelfrey but I think it was the right move - he certainly has a taste of what he needs to work on if he is to be successful in the majors. In the meantime I expect we'll see Sele or Heilman in spot-starter situations.

Nice to see Newhan start to contribute - I like that guy and hope we will all be singing his praises before long.

The Mets are gonna be amazing.

Sele, yes; Heilman, unlikely at best.

Good Move On Pelfrey

I think the Mets made the right move on sending Pelfrey down. He's a young guy and I think he needs to retain his confidence. Hard to do that if he's getting knocked around at the major league level.

Oliver Perez has come a long way. The Mets really have some formidable pitching with Maine, Perez and Glavine. There are some holes there with El Duque and Pelfrey but Jorge Sosa may be something of a cure for that.

So far the results are very good.
