Pedro Martinez Needs A New Approach

Pedro Martinez The Mets loss to the Yankees last night was a brutal one. After shelling the Yankees 15-6 in the day game at Yankee Stadium I feared this kind of a let down. And what a let down it was. Getting blanked by a washed up, one game fill in starter named Sidney Ponson. The Mets had big chances to score in the first three innings and failed to convert. Same old, same old.

Will The Real Mets Please Stand up?

Just when I begin to lose faith the Mets go and win a pair against the Yankees and in Yankee stadium no less. The wins feature solid pitching, timely hitting and four RBIs for Jose Reyes. All of this I like and want more of. So I hope the Mets are not teasing us as they continue on their longest road trip of the season.

The funny thing about the victories versus the Yankees is the fact that the wins didn't elicit the same feeling as they usually do. Instead of elation over beating a hated rival I felt more of a sense of relief that the recent slide was halted, if only for the moment.

Winning When It Counts

Well, it was fun indeed to beat up on the Yanks over the weekend and for the Met fans to have unequivocal bragging rights around the office today. It is fun to see the Yankee fans stammer and try to change the topic when the subject of baseball comes up. My mama always taught me to be humble but it is indeed hard to resist at least a little needling.

Steinbrenner Will Be Cryin

Nice game tonight. Oliver Perez pitched great. Joe Smith got Jeter to strike out to end the 8th. Billy Wagner survived a runner on in the 9th. Giambi strikes out to end the game.

Let's hear it for Endy Chavez. First he makes a great throw, then he gives the Mets a 3-2 lead with a two run bomb off Andy Pettitte.

Ticket Auction for Opening Day and Yanks Series

I really can't figure the Mets out. They instituted a mysterious raffle for playoff tickets last season. I threw my name in the hopper and got nothing, although I did have other chances to go to games.

Now they are instituting another mystery raffle for opening day and the three games against the Yankees. I just don't like it.
