The Spring Training Update Cast

Amazin Moments #95

Lots of spring training talk on this episode of the podcast. I incorrectly refer to this episode as #94 but it's really #95. Really!

Discussion points:

  • Injuries to Johan Santana and Mike Pelfrey
  • Duaner Sanchez released
  • The questionable fifth starter race between Redding, Garcia, Hernandez and maybe Pedro Martinez
  • The injury to Angel Pagan
  • Daniel Murphy as the starting left fielder
  • 2009 Mets tickets for Citi field - http://newyork.mets.mlb.com/nym/ticketing/seating_pricing.jsp
  • Single game tickets for April and May onsale Sunday, March 15th at 10AM

Johan Tossing Batting Practice

This might get people smiling a bit more. Johan Santana tosses batting practice yesterday. The word now is that Johan will be ready for opening day. Yay!

It's Getting Crazy Already

Spring training has just started and we've already got two items of not good (I hesitate to say bad) news.

  1. Mike Pelfrey gets scammed.
  2. Tim Redding is injured.

I was thinking that Redding might make a decent 5th starter but even so it's nice to have options. And it seems that for the moment Jerry Manuel has one less option. With Pelfrey I'm worried about his mindset. At least he hasn't gotten big money yet so his losses couldn't have been that bad.

5th Rotation Slot Competition

Barring injuries, most of the Mets' starters are set heading into the 09 season. really, unless the mets sign orlando hudson (who is really cheap and i would strongly reccomend it, but i doubt it will happen), the only position player thing left to be sorted out is to what extent schneider and castro will share the games behind the plate. but that's not a big deal. The only big question is who will fill out the final spot in the Mets' pitching rotation. Here are the candidates:

Braves Batting Practice

Another video from my jaunt down to Sarasota. Hear the crack of the bat as the Braves take batting practice.

Things Are Looking Up

After a rough first couple of weeks in spring training things are finally looking up for the Mets. John Maine threw four no-hit innings a couple of days ago. Johan Santana blanked the Red Sox yesterday. The Carloses, Delgado and Beltran, returned to action yesterday.

Some Spring Training Action

A couple of minutes from the Reds vs. Braves yesterday. The Braves pitcher overthrows the catcher on a sure double play ball with the bases loaded. The next batter drives in a run with a sacrifice fly.

Spring Training Daze

I had a really nice day today at Ed Smith Stadium in Sarasota. Watched the Cincinnati Reds clobber a split-squad Braves team 13-8. The day was a bit cool for Florida, but the sun was out too. I'm definitely not complaining though. I could sit and watch relaxing games like this every day. Check out the pics below. I got some video too.
