If there's one player I hate to not see on the field it's Jose Reyes. So of course I was very concerned when I saw the report that Reyes indeed had a problem with his thyroid.

Last week Jose Reyes had surgery on one of his precious wheels.

"Mets shortstop Jose Reyes underwent successful surgery to eliminate scar tissues in his right leg Thursday morning in Dallas. Reyes should be fully recovered and ready to participate in all activities in training camp in February."

It can't get much worse than losing three straight to Pittsburgh then finding out that Jose Reyes has a torn hamstring and will miss 4 to 6 weeks. Ugh. I feel ill myself right now. Omar Minaya better be out there looking for a big pickup prior to the trading deadline. I think we're going to need the assistance in a bad way.

How's this for drama? The NY Post is reporting that Jose Reyes and Keith Hernandez had some serious words on the charter flight to St. Louis last Sunday night. Evidently some friends of Jose alerted him of comments made by Hernandez during a recent game and Jose wanted to have his say directly with Keith.

According to the NY post story, "Reyes said yesterday he was angry at Hernandez after numerous friends and relatives told him Hernandez accused the Mets of "babying" Reyes during the broadcast of Sunday's 3-1 win over the Yankees New York Yankees at Shea Stadium." The story also says that Reyes and Hernandez, "...were close to exchanging punches until others stepped in."

Jose Reyes has been Named NL Player of the Month. He deserved it too, hitting .356, 26 runs scored, 17 stolen bases, 5 triples, and 18 RBI's from the leadoff spot. He is the most exciting player in baseball now, A-Rod can choke on his home runs as far as i'm concerned.

John Maine was also named the NL Pitcher of the Month with a 4-0 perfect record and a 1.35 ERA.
