Billy Is Done But The Mets Are Not
Submitted by robsafuto on Mon, 09/08/2008 - 14:54The following headline says it all.
Wagner to have surgery on left elbow
"Billy Wagner will undergo surgery this week on his left elbow, and will miss one year, a Mets official confirmed early Monday afternoon."
Now is the time for the Mets bullpen to step up and get it done by committee. We've got some veterans who can get the job done. Aaron Heilman has pitched well over his last eight appearances. Brandon Stokes has been getting it done lately. He has a 1.46 ERA over his last 12 innings pitched. Luis Ayala has pitched pretty well recently. Joe Smith has picked up the role of specialist and can help get righty hitters out in tough situations.
The Mets can get it done with the bullpen we have. It won't be easy but ya gotta believe. Let's Go Mets!

Billy Wagner's Frustration
Submitted by robsafuto on Fri, 05/16/2008 - 08:15Here's a quote from Billy Wagner that says it all.
"Somebody want to tell me why the closer is being interviewed and I didn't even play," Wagner said in an expletive-laced tirade, "and why they are over there and not being interviewed? I got it; they're gone. (Big) shocker."
Where was everyone else? These guys make huge money so they should at least be able to take their medicine and talk about a poor performance when it occurs. And these days poor performances are occurring more often than not.

Billy Wagner's No Hitter
Submitted by robsafuto on Sat, 04/26/2008 - 16:40Billy Wagner has done it! Billy has pitched a virtual no hitter. After today's save he has appeared in nine games and retired 27 batters without giving up a hit. Billy has faced a total of 29 batters because he has given up two walks.
Billy's pitching has been a real bright spot in an otherwise dismal April. Thanks Billy!

Wagner Houdini
Submitted by robsafuto on Thu, 08/09/2007 - 09:38I have to admit that I got 'that sinking feeling' in the top of the ninth last night. And that game was a roller coaster.
Mets get a lead. Braves take the lead on a crazy two out rally. Mets tie the game on a broken bat single. Mets take the lead on a solo homer with two strikes on Moises Alou. Already enough drama and excitement.

MVP Checkpoint
Submitted by Phoola on Thu, 07/26/2007 - 10:34As we all know the bats have been very streaky, mostly on the down side, this whole season. With no consistent production (or defense either, for that matter) coming out of any spot in the lineup, how do we account for the fact that the Mets still find themselves in first place going into the stretch run?

Props To Billy Wagner
Submitted by robsafuto on Thu, 05/24/2007 - 08:19By my count Billy Wagner has saved 11 out of 11 chances. By this time last year I think he had blown 3 saves.
Billy has done a great job. He did a great job last night. I'm going to head over and rate billy five stars.
