Dickey

Wow, look at R. A. Dickey with the 2-for-3 so far.

K-Rod and another 1-run lead

What is it with Mets closers...Benitez, Franco, K-Rod, that they just have to put multiple runners on every game they come into??

What does it say that on ESPN's GameCast thingy that with the Mets up 4-3, runners on 2nd and 3rd, 2 outs in the 9th with K-Rod pitching, that the Mets' odds of winning were only 82%?

Moot point, game over.  Good deal.  We needed to get off the schneid vs. Florida.

meanwhile...

Philadelphia has to be up by one run...Washington had to be up by one run....

K-Rod's Adventures

Unfortunately there must be something in the water in Flushing. I can't remember a closer on the Mets who didn't give me a near heart attack in close games. Frankie is no exception. He gives up 2 out hits, goes deep into counts, walks batters then anything can happen. While I'm disappointed with his consistency, he's the least of our troubles right now with Daniel Murphy out for the season, Luis Castillo on the DL and Oliver Perez generally preventing the Mets from getting their roster straight.

Saturday

At least Saturday's looking good so far...Wright and Ike 5-for-5 with 4 RBIs so far.  Oh yeah.  Niese has them shut out too, hope he's pitching as well as the score indicates.

As for Ollie, how do teams get away with this fake DL exercise? My Aunt Martha knows he's not injured...

Oh is your Aunt Martha a

Oh is your Aunt Martha a sports doctor? Did she examine him? You claim all this expertise on Oliver Perez' condition out of the same ignorance that made you assume that all Japanese pitchers are worthless.. You will recall the man had patellar tendinitis all last year and knee surgery in September. But no, even though his fastball has lost 10 MPH and he was sent for an MRI last Friday you have some supreme knowledge that he must be faking it. Or that he is intentionally trying to sabotage the team. Are you his shrink too? The MLB powers that be are looking into it too, and whatever judgment they make will be based upon actual evidence instead of the secret "knowledge" that you and your Aunt Martha claim to have. Please tell us your evidence or spare us your BS.

Tell Us How You Really Feel

It's a curious situation to a lot of people. Some might say that the fact that in the past the patella was an issue offers the Mets some cover in this situation. Why not do the MRI earlier? It's not like the Mets don't have access to a doctor. The MRI should come before all that time out of the rotation, no? Bad news doesn't get better with age.

I don't know what it is. But Ollie is known as a bit of a head case at times. So I could see the Mets sending an un-injured Perez to the DL in order to clear the roster spot and give Ollie some time to get it together without having to lose face with a trip to the minors. As of today MLB says it's all kosher. But I'm still not sure. I'm sure that right now the Mets are better off without Ollie in the rotation. I'd like to see him bounce back because he's getting paid too much to not be starting.

re: Aunt Martha

[reply put in wrong spot but you get the idea]

(1) Calm down with the personal attacks.  I never said that all Japanese pitchers are worthless and resent the accusation and being called "ignorant."  I said something to the effect that the Mets keep going to the well thinking this or that second-tier Japanese pitcher is going to solve their problems, on the cheap no doubt, and that the only one who even had any passing success was Yoshii.  Incidentally, I've always said the same thing about most American League pitchers the Mets bring over.  Santana's the first one who's delivered the goods (if the Mets could only ever score 2-3 runs a game for him) since Leiter or early Pedro. Think back to what guys like Saberhagen, Viola, Appier, Tanana, Schoeneweis and Putz did once they donned orange and blue.

(2) Aunt Martha is a figure of speech; see (1).

(3) I "claim no expertise" on Perez's condition(s) and I don't see Perez game in, game out to know how his knee seems.

(4) I never said he was "faking it."  That doesn't even make sense, what you're accusing me of accusing him of doing.  Perez has been publicly saying he's fine and resisting going to Buffalo or to Florida, so why would he fake an injury that might result in his being sent elsewhere?  That's ignorant.

(5) I never said he was "intentionally sabotaging" the team.  I said he was placing what he perceives as best for him over what's best for the team as a whole.  No one in their right mind thinks Perez has contributed anything positive to this team so far or is about to anytime soon.  This isn't exactly a viewpoint unique to me.  Read up some on it.  There aren't many Perez defenders out there but enjoy.

(6) To even a casual observer of the team, a move to the DL seemed dubious when it was first announced, as a desperate attempt to get something useful out of the roster spot he's clogging up.  I wouldn't blame the Mets for doing that if that were the case, but I'm glad to hear that there's a legitimate injury.  This is an approach it seems the Mets have used before; I cannot give names or dates, but it seems they've done this recently and I wasn't even aware that MLB would or could review these moves.  But again I'm glad they did and it appears to exonerate the team.

(7) So take your sarcastic tone and accusations, your "ignorance," "supreme knowledge," "secret 'knowledge,'" and "BS" (listening to too much Glenn Beck or something?) and see (1) above.

Home Cooking

Well the Mets are loving Citi Field this season which is good for the fans. They're also stinking it up on the road which is not so good and so we're just above .500. David Wright and Ike Davis paced the team today offensively. I think Ike brings a dimension to the middle of the lineup that would have been missing without him. Mike Jacobs wouldn't have been the same. Not that I think Davis is the total real deal yet but he does enough to help the guys behind him to see good pitches. We need Jason Bay in the act more. Had an ofer today. Reyes didn't do it today either. If we can get Bay, Wright and Reyes hot at the same time the Mets are very dangerous offensively.

All I can say about Niese is thank the heavens for him. We're getting solid pitching from Johan and Pelfrey so if Jon Niese can pitch pretty well and R.A. Dickey keeps knuckling we don't have too bad of a rotation. We've got just enough to keep the Mets in it I think but not enough to really be a contender. With the Mets tendencies to stop hitting and the bullpens tendencies to blow up the starters have more importance than ever.

staying in it

Staying in it might be important though if Philadelphia keeps phloundering, at least enough to hang back with us and Atlanta doesn't take off.  I'm not worried about Atlanta now, I still think they'll wind up 4th or 5th in the division.  Winning streaks end.  Staying in it might be enough to lure a good enough rent-a-player to matter or to attract some decent starting pitching or whatever we need or 2011.  It's tough to attract good players if you win 70.

Sunday

How about today though, coming back from a 5-0 deficit to smack the Marlins?  Nice, wish I could've watched it.  Especially after that 4-game sweep they gave us in Miami, this was a sweet one.

Sunday Sweep

This was the second home sweep in a row. Both were against division rivals which is great. This was a rare late inning comeback too. The Mets were down 5-0 in the sixth. Jeff Francoeur had a huge game tying 3-run homer. K-Rod was a little shaky once again. I think the wind saved him from disaster. These home wins are great for the fans and keep the Mets in it. I just hope they can get it together on the road.
