It's Going To Be A Long Season

Any way you slice it I think that the 2010 season, what's left of it, is going to be a very long one. Every time I have some hope, like after the 8 game winning streak, and after the 5 game winning streak and sweep of the Phils, the reality sets back in. Now we have a pair of series losses after a sweep that should have turned the Mets season around. At least 2 more of the last 6 were winnable. Tonight the Mets got a great start from Johan Santana and the Mets didn't hit and Frankie Rodriquez couldn't save it. And so it goes.

We're back to square one. What rays of hope are there on the horizon? We've got Oliver Perez obstructing the team by refusing a minor league assignment so Jon Niese can return. John Maine is questionable. Carlos Beltran is questionable for an effective return this year. Jason Bay, our big money free agent slugger, is on pace for 66 RBIs. And Frankie Rodriquez has turned into a version of Armando Benitez.

From where I'm standing I see a .500 team that doesn't event contend for a wild card spot. What do you see?
