and I'm still seeing some really good baseball. Neise had a great outing going 7 innings and allowing only one run. We've seen a bit more power from the lineup with 7 (I think) extra-base hits so far, and we've had some outstanding defense throughout the game, in the 2nd particularly. Now I'm really interested in how Pelfrey does tomorrow.

So the Mets draw first blood in the season series with the Phillies. Can't complain about that. Jon Niese has been a pleasant surprise so far. He's like a young Tom Glavine. Jeff Francouer is my favorite Mets player right now because he can hit, field and throw as good as anyone in the league. And I was wrong about Rod Barajas. I thought that Omir Santos deserved a shot to start this year for the Mets. I still think he did but Barajas has proven to be better behind the plate and at the plate than our previous starter Brian Schneider. So far he looks like a real good signing.

The Mets need to take care of business and win the rubber game tonight. I figured that Mike Pelfrey would have a tough start at some point. He was just too hot. So the Mets took a beating yesterday. Given the fact that they were facing Halladay I think the offensive slump was understandable. Tonight is another story though. Winning the first series of the year against the Phillies sends the message that the Mets have come to play hard in 2010. And it sets us up for another winning streak. Let's Go Mets!

I know what Jerry Manuel is trying to do by putting Fernando Tatis in the starting lineup over Ike Davis. He's going for the lefty pitcher, righty batter matchup. You still get comparable defense and Tatis has proven himself to be a good hitter. Why Gary Matthews Jr. over Angel Pagan though? Aside from just the matchup you get poor defense and worse speed compared to Pagan.

What to say about tonights disaster in progress? Johan Santana didn't have anything and Jerry Manuel left him in too long. Yes, it is Johan. But he walked Jamie Moyer for heavens sake. It was over right then. The mets could probably score a few more runs against Jamie Moyer but 11 total runs is a tall order. The bottom line is that a loss tonight signals a failure in the first real test of the 2010 season. Not the end of the world just yet. Disappointing nonetheless.
...I think Johan's still hurt. Or else he reinjured something in the 4th inning yesterday. There is nothing else that I feel could explain a 2 time cy young winning pitcher in his prime walking the pitcher with the bases loaded and then serving up 85 mph meatballs to victorino, polanco, and utley. it makes no sense. his fastball velocity was down, his changeup velocity was up, and he didn't throw a single slider the whole night. clearly that elbow isn't 100%. I pray i'm wrong and Johan just lost his mojo for 1 night or was feeling sick or hungover or something lol, but something tells me that 1 nightmarish inning may cost us more than just a series to our rivals.
8-1 in the 9th right now

I hope my instincts are wrong, but...
