Concerned About Jose Reyes

Jose ReyesIf there's one player I hate to not see on the field it's Jose Reyes. So of course I was very concerned when I saw the report that Reyes indeed had a problem with his thyroid. Tests on Reyes Confirm Overactive Thyroid

This morning there is conflicting information that is being reported which indicates that whatever is going on it's not much to worry about. Reyes Thyroid Condition Debated

The latest tory reported that, "Doctors cleared Reyes to play Friday. But team doctors in New York wanted to take a closer look at the speedster and pulled him out of pregame stretching."

So which is it? Does Reyes have an overactive thyroid? That would mean at a minimum that he would have to go on some sore of medication. Would the medication affect Reyes' performance on the field? Or is Jose OK and ready to play? I sure hope so.

Given all the other question marks we have going into the 2010 season this situation is a most unwelcome development. I think that Jose Reyes is the most important impact player on the Mets. And the thought that he will either be out or less than 100% has to have a negative effect on the team.

Are you concerned? Do you thing Reyes is OK? What should the Mets do if this results in an extended absence from baseball?

Reyes Bummer

Well, the news is in and Jose Reyes will miss 2 to 8 weeks. The first month (or even two) of the season is going to be tough without both Reyes and Beltran. As a fan I'll be looking to David Wright, Jeff Francoeur and Jason Bay to pick up the offensive slack. I hope they can do it.

He's fine

I'm not as worried about Reyes as I am Beltran. Reyes was 100% coming into spring training and then he got this freak thyroid thing that hasn't seemed to bother him at all. He says he's fine and feels great. I see him coming back mid april. Beltran on the other hand is coming off knee surgery. He relies on his speed almost as much as Reyes. There's no question that the Mets need both these guys healthy if they even want to think about the playoffs.

Reyes Returns

The news that Jose Reyes' thyroid levels are back to normal gives me a bit more optimism for the start of the season. And they say that Jose could be in the lineup on opening day.
