The Mets have sunk to a new low with their loss to the Phillies this afternoon. I think at this point it is safe to say that the bottom has officially dropped out from under the 2009 Mets. I hoped for a bounce back after an amazing (not in a good way) loss to the Phillies on Sunday. Unassisted triple play to kill a rally anyone? If you're going to lose you might as well make history, right? Seriously, at 11 games uner .500, 16.5 games out of the division and 13.5 games out of the wild card we all know that this season is essentially over for the Mets. Actually, I'm already ready to get over it. We haven't seen Jose Reyes since I don't know when. Delgado and Beltran who? Maine is a state isn't it? And though David Wright has been out for only a few games it seems like he's been gone longer than that.
Given the above miseries I have a question. How would you like to see the Mets play out the 2009 season. Should our injured stars attempt comebacks or rest and get 100% for next year? Should Jerry Manuel put more youngsters in the lineup and say goodbye to grizzled vets like Tatis and Sheffield? Should the Bobby Parnell experiment continue? What do you think? I don't think its too early to start talking 2010 either. Should the Mets try to keep Carlos Delgado? Who plays left field in 2010? What pitcher, if any, should the Mets add to the starting rotation? Oh there's a lot to talk about.

Shut Santana Down
Johan Santana has a sore elbow. The Mets shouldn't play around here. Although its nice to have Johan available so the Mets have an occasional shot at victory, we have to think about the future. So Johan should be shut down for the rest of the season. End of story.
Adios Johan
Add Johan to the list of those spared from playing the remainder of this horrible 2009 season for the Mets. He's getting arthro surgery for bone chips in his elbow. See you in February Johan!
15-day?
Reyes and Beltran are on the 15-day DL?? What does that accomplish?
5 weeks
I think we ought to be glad there're only 5 more weeks to go or we might be slugging it out with Washington for 4th. Remember when there was talk that Washington might "outdo" the '62 Mets? Who ever thought we'd be this close to them?
