If you see the final score you'd think we got crushed, but i watched the last 3 innings and the home plate ump pretty much jipped us out of that game. It was 2-1 in the bottom of the 9th with a runner on first 0 outs, and the Padres hit a drive into the RF corner. The Padres 3B coach waved the runner around third, not remembering what a cannon Jeff Francouer has. From the wall in right, he hit the cutoff at first base in the air, who made an online relay throw to Schnieder who made a spectacular tag to block the plate with his glove. Replays confirmed he was out and never even touched the plate, but he was called safe. Instead of 2-1 runner on 3rd with 1 out, it was 2-2 runner on 3rd with 0 outs. that forced us to walk the bases loaded looking for a double play which allowed the walk off granny by Cabrera to take place...but in reality Cabrera should never have even reached the batters box. We might have still lost anyway, idk, but that blown call was yet another game losing bad break the Mets caught. How much bad luck can we get?
Bad calls or not the plain fact of the matter is that the Mets are truly 'The Mess' and they are a terrible team. I was at the game for both Shaun Green meltdowns and the last K-Rod blown save at Citi. Let's call a spade a spade and realize that this team should be in last place if not for the even-more-lowly Nationals. Time to think about next year. What ownership needs to do regarding management, medical staff, and the roster as a while. That being said, I hope Parnell has a good showing as a starter today. He seems to have really good stuff and could be a value added to the rotation assuming that the rest of the holes (2-4) are improved or solidified.
I'm not trying to say that the currennt Mets roster should be winning ball games but is being jipped by bad luck or is underperforming, because you're right the team we're putting out on the feild is "terrible" and a "mess". But I think it is mostly bad luck in the form of injuries that has put us in this situation, not poor management or a roster with holes. If we trotted out Reyes, Castillo, Beltran, Delgado, Wright, Francouer, Murphy, Schneider, and Maine to meet the Padres last night with a bench full of usable pros, we'd have won the game. Instead, we feilded a team of Cora, Anderson Hernandez, Pagan, Wright, Murphy, Tatis, Sullivan, Santos, Parnell, and the results speak for themselves.
I'm not trying to delude myself into thinking the current Mets team is just "unlucky"; right now the Mets suck. But the current Mets roster has few of the players I looked forward to watching this season. More than any managerial change or FA signee, getting our players back on the feild and keeping there is the single best thing Omar Minaya can do for next season.

I think both of you are right. Yes, the Mets got shafted on the call at the plate. That doesn't guarantee that K-Rod makes it out of the inning though. Pitchers who walk the tightrope get burned. Earlier in the season when things were going the Mets' way K-Rod got into trouble and was able to get out of it. Recently he hasn't been able to do that. If he stays out of trouble in the first place then he wouldn't have to worry about close calls at the plate.
The other piece of the puzzle is the offense. The Mets offense is bad for obvious reasons. We don't have the lineup we planned to have at the beginning of the season due to injuries. Perhaps the team conditioning regimen is a factor. I've never seen so many hamstring injuries on one team.
A particularly snarky Yankees fan cornered me at work yesterday and tried to get me to admit that the season was over for the Mets. I couldn't do it. What I said was that if the Mets were five or more games out from a playoff spot in the beginning of September then I would concede. The team has three weeks to shape up before the final stretch. So while i'm not hopeful that a turnaround is in the works I still believe that its possible.
Four Game Series
When the Mets play the Giants next week at Citi Field they will have played five 4 game series' in the space of a month. Seems like a lot to me.
Jipped by an awful call

Stop blaming bad luck

We are terrible NOW

Excruciating Either Way

One Out of Four Is Bad
Nice to see Johan pitch well in the final game but at the end of a four game series one win isn't satisfying.
