There's no dancing around it: the starting lineup the Mets are trotting out there...sucks. we cannot score runs with a struggling david wright as our only star. the offense can't produce when it is being held down by the likes of alex cora, daniel murphy, fernando tatis, a 20 year old, brian schnieder, nick evans, and omir santos. with good pitching a good team might be able to get away with relying on 2 or 3 of those guys for production, but not all of them and certainly not at the same time. and we dont even have that good pitching with putz, maine, and olly out! when livan hernandez is your 3rd starter, you do not have a .500 team! we are lucky to be only 5 games back with the roster we're trotting out there. we cannot complain about the poor performance, as it should be expected with these players.
the mets chances appear to be fading fast. by the allstar break last year we had battled to just 1 game back in the East. I garuntee we won't be near that close this year, just a week from it. To have any chance, we need to get healthy and do it fast, and it doesn't appear beltran or reyes will be able to return immediately after the allstar game, much less play in it.
basically, in case anybody didnt realize this already, we're in deep shit.
They've sucked for the last month. Right now this is beyond embarrassing this is beyond baseball (thought I could provide some comic relief). But in all seriousness the Mets season is on the bbrink of falling apart for the third straight season. And Ollie Perez is supposed to save the day today? When a position player hasn't drivin in a run since last friday?! Jesus Christ help this team out!!!
Did anyone say that article the other day saying the mets with there 140million payroll are the worse team in baseball as they lead the league in all the bad statistics.
Im not expecting to win a game against the Dodgers and i can't see the team taking more than a game of anyone at the moment.
I might have seen it, not sure, but you can use statistics e.g. payroll to make any point you want. We're not trotting out a $140 mil lineup every night...hell, any night....so that's misleading. Why we can't keep a $140 mil team healthy; that's another issue.
I don't expect to win tonight's game by any stretch. My guess: we lose 9-2. But we'll score (probably on unearned runs or 2 GIDPs...).

1-0 LA end of the 1st....insurmountable lead, game over.
Although I was getting pretty nervous when the tying run got to 2nd base. Too bad about the Phillies getting a walk-off win. I think that still leaves us 5 games back right? So what deficit would everyone be happy with going into the All Star break? If we can stay in touch and not be more than 4 games out at the break, I would be pretty happy considering how awfully we've played.
every time I watch this i just laugh. of all the defensive blunders on this team and with the liability murphy has been for us in the OF, it's ironic that he would be the one to make the play of the year.
So here's the stupidest thing I've seen in ages. ESPN predicts the game for LA at 66 to 34%. Top of the 1st, bases loaded, 1 out, 1 run in for LA and their odds of winning are down to 59%?
Like how the Mets can be 59 to 41 underdogs, take a 1-run lead in the 2nd and all of a sudden their odds of winning are in the 60s just because they scored. Sheesh.
Just since I started typing, of course, we have the bases-clearing double for LA. That's about it for tonight, thanks, drive safely.

6-1...why is Hernandez still in this game? Just to eat up innings? I can't imagine it's because he's got anything or they expect to get back into it. That's sad.
Omar has a difficult decision to make this month. He must decide, before the trading deadline, if he still has enough faith in this year's team to trade away young talent to make 09 work. Recent, gloomy news suggest that we cannot expect to see Delgado, Beltran, and Reyes back on the feild together before August 15th. They should all start trickling in in early August, along with Putz and Maine. From that point until the end of the season is about 6, maybe 7 weeks, and it is the only time we will really have to conceivably GAIN on the Phillies. This discombobulated herd of players we're calling a team in the meantime have given us 2 months of .500 ball, and for that we should be grateful, but in the past 2 weeks they have unraveled. Whats left of this starless team cannot last another month if we are to fancy ourselves playoff contenders, but we still have a month's worth of games until the Mets return to the Mets.
The only way, in my opinion, we can expect to be in the running for a playoff spot come September is if Johan makes a move. The 2 guys that really pop out as availible are Roy Halladay and Matt Holliday. The latter would be far cheaper than the former with pitching at such a premium and imo we are more desperate for power than another ace, although Halladay would give us a fearful 1-2 punch. Holliday is probably the more likely suitor. Regardless, such a move would rejuvenate the club and the fans and make us all the better when our stars do return, and in future seasons as well. The downside is what we would have to give. If it means giving up F-Mart to get Holliday, i'm not interested, but just about anyone else in the farm system I'm willing to trade. both of the above guys are young, so its not like we'd be screwed in the future by trading away young talent. I say package Daniel Murphy, Jon Niese, and Dillon Gee for Holliday, or maybe throw in Brad Holt for Halladay. idk, its unlikely to happen but unless it does I would have to think we're not making the playoffs this year.
a challenge
Post any grounds for optimism in this series. Anything.
Frankly, I'm stunned we're still as close to .500 at this point as we are.
5-0 already
I guess not.
Thank God for the Nationals; 4th place is safe anyway.
Optimism
Hard to find right now. With the way this offense is right now we need a solid starting performance every night to have a shot at a win.
Right now, the Mets Suck

asking for it
Perez is clearly asking for it....5 walks in 3 innnings so far. You can't expect to get away with that against a good team for long.
Desperate
This is a desperation moment in my mind. We need a win, several in a row in fact, at all costs. Really!
Manny HR
I can't bear to watch!!!
Put it in the books!
Mets Win.......Mets Win.....Mets Win........
Welcome back boys....we've missed you!
needless to say...
The rare night we pull out a squeaker Philadelphia wins theirs in the bottom of the 9th. Would you expect anything else?
Nice!

That was a real nice play.
That was a real nice play. Nice to see something go the Mets way.
and it begins
When was the last time we got out of the first inning without giving up runs? I can't remember any more.
