Subway Series weather

Is it just me or is there always some weather issue with the Subway Series?  Usually involving one of those blasted day-night doubleheaders, usually a crosstown one at that.  We never sweep these by the way and more often than not get swept.  What are they saying about tonight's game/weather?

Has it rained in NYC for like weeks or something??

Alar's picture

Yes

It's rained here in New York every day for the past 3 weeks or so.

The weather calls for more rain on Saturday and Sunday.

Traditional Double Header?

If the rain canceles this game, it will be cool to see a traditional double header! Opinions anyone?

Errors, Errors Everywhere!!!

Oh My Word!!!!

If i were Mike Pelfrey, i'd smack somebody in the dugout after that last inning.....3 errors?  Come on guys.......

jmy9595's picture

errors

Are the errors weather-related?  Slippery grass, can't grab the ball?  Yankees appear able to do it....

eeesh

I'm not watching the actual game, just on ESPN.com, but yikes:

NYY      4   5   0
NYM      0   0   3

That can't be good.  Let's go back to the rainout.  I don't care if Sabathia can hit; no pitcher should drive in a run and score in his first AB of the year.

At The Game Tonight

Well last night was disappointing. I had hoped the Mets could continue scrapping out wins but that 2nd inning was a disaster. Three errors plus a hit, RBI and run scored by Sabbathia. I give Mike Pelfrey a lot of credit for regaining his composure and pitching well for the rest of his outing. By all accounts he should have gotten out of that inning down by only two runs. The pitching and defense held up after that so the real story was anemic offense once again. Yes, Sabbathia is good but his ERA is in the 3.50 range so getting more than one run was possible.

Jerry Manuel has no good options right now to shuffle the lineup. When all is said and done he's got one bonafide thread in the lineup (David Wright) and that's it. So the Mets will have to win games on strong pitching, solid defense and fundamentals like sacrifices and smart baserunning. In games where the Mets don't do those things right they probably won't win.

Myself and SgtWarbucks will be at the game tonight. We'll be getting there early, bringing caps to trade for what looks to be a red Mets cap sponsored by Chevy. I'll apologize up front to all American taxpayers since the hats will mostly be on their dime ;) Hey look, on a night in stadium with a bailed out naming sponsor and a bailed out promotion sponsor perhaps the Mets subs can bail out the fans and beat the stuffing out of AJ Burnett. I hope so. I'm bringing my video camera so I'll post a few to YouTube later in the weekend.

Mets hat

Hey Rob just remember don't trade in a good hat. My Grandpa traded in a good Met hat for one that they were giving away and it was a complete piece of crap (which should be expected). Enjoy the game, Let's Go Mets!

robsafuto's picture

Trade In Hats

I didn't do the trade because I thought all the hats were gone and tossed the hat I brought to trade which I didn't want anyway. And then we saw that they were trading the hats in the stadium in an area behind the outfield instead of at the entries. The trade in hat I got before was pretty good but the one's yesterday were horrible. They had cloth in the very front but most of it was just mesh.

Saturday

This looks like another winner.  Now we're being no-hit and some shlub named Swisher puts one out of L-CF at Citi?

jmy9595's picture

5-0

Super....Yankee HRs flying all over the  place and we can't do squat.  Philadelphia already won and we'd better keep an eye on Florida too these days.

interviews

I get the Mets interviews in my daily iTunes podcasts and listen to them on the way to work.  God it gets tiring listening to Redding and Pelfrey bemoaning their latest lousy starts.  Usually something like I pitched pretty well except for that one inning.  Well, that one inning is the reason this is clearly turning into a .500 team.

Tonight is the game we should win

I couldn't really get that annoyed with the last 2 defeats to the yankees as when you looked at the pitching match ups the yankees had a big edge last night with Burnett over Redding, and Sabathia had an edge over Pelfrey. But the way we played didn't help our cause at all.

So tonight we should win Livan has an edge over Wang who has been awfull as a starter this season, so hopefully the Mets should gets some hits and score alot of runs.

Lets go Mets . Mets to win 8-1

I don't see a huge advantage

Maybe it's barely an advantage, but we already have the built-in, no upside fact of the Phillies having already won.  Fortunately the Marlins lost, so we can't lose 2nd place tonight anyway.    I don't get to watch many of these games, but if they keep playing the kinds of games it seems like they've been playing this team is risking something fatal...just playing such boring baseball that I don't care anymore.  How many times do I glance over at the play-bu-play rundown on ESPN.com and see flyout/groundout/popup and other popular 1-2-3 innings night in, night out.  Other team bats for 15 minutes, we're up and down in 3.

Live

I havent been to a game in 2 years as i live in the uk. Luckily i can watch it live on ESPN tonight. We should attack Wang tonight. If we can keep the errors to a minimum and not strike out on silly pitches it should be a win. I'm going to be bold and say that i think David Wright will hit 2 home runs tonight.

Lets go mets

mattroy's picture

1st inning

Why didn't Murphy take the easy out of Swisher instead of trying to get Jeter at 3rd. Not liking this already

mattroy's picture

crap

2-0 no one out in the 1st. What is going on. Do i switch off now or keep on watching.

mattroy's picture

Murphy

It's only the 1st inning and i want Murphy out of the game. How can he drop a double play ball.

jmy9595's picture

work

I'm at work, am recording it in case something spectacular happens (no-hitter, etc.) but I see we wasted no time in throwing up a 3-0 deficit.  Perfect.  I'm sure we can come back from that.  The sarcasm's getting deep in here.

jmy9595's picture

wow two whole runners

Wow we got two guys on bsae in the same inning.  Didn't score of course but wow.

robsafuto's picture

That Sinking Feeling

Already we're in a hole on Sunday night! The game last night stunk. Yankee fans were crowing all over the place and it's really hard to see how Jerry Manuel can field a competitive lineup without Beltran and Reyes. There are just to many holes. Redding pitched poorly but when you score zero runs that doesn't matter. After the game I listened to Tony Paige on WFAN and the mood was pretty somber. No one can see how the Mets can compete. We did just take 3 of 4 from the Cardinals so maybe I'm wrong.

The stadium is nice but has some ridiculous quirks. I shot lots of video that will be on YouTube soon.

We've got to get to Wang tonight. He's horrible with an 11.00 ERA.

What's the You Tube link

Rob,

What's the account name or link for your videos?  Can people subscribe to them?

YouTube Channel

My YouTube account is at http://www.youtube.com/user/rsafuto. It's going to take a while to upload all of them and get them processed. The first one is live now but they haven't transcoded it to HD yet. The HD versions should look much better.

mattroy's picture

bloody crap

Wright hits into a double play. This game is over already i think. Wang is awfull this year but i cant see the mets even getting 1 run off him tonight.
