Saved By The Subs

The Mets needed a win today and got a win. We have to take it day by day because there are going to be plenty of ups and downs. Probably more downs than ups with all of the players we have on the disabled list. I'm going to the game on Saturday and I definitely plan to take a lot of photos and videos while at the game.

Went to Shea

I went to Shea last night to watch the Mets take on the Cards. It was a good game even though the Mets tried bunting almost every chance they could.

The new Shea Stadium is beautiful. There are some minor issues and the financial issue, but overall it's a drastic improvement over the old Shea Stadium.

BTW, is it just me or does the new Stadium logo look like the Dominos logo?

Yes, I know some people call it Citi Field, but that don't make it right.

Citi Field logo

I've heard that said about the Dominos logo but aside from them both being rectangular/square and tiled 45 degrees to the left, no, I don't see it.

tonight's games

Looks like Philadelphia woke up.  We couldn't beat Tampa Bay but Philadelphia comes to town and scores 6 in the first.  On the bright side, Tampa Bay's got a lot better chance of coming back from 6-0 in the 3rd than late in the game.

Down 1-0 early for us, will see if Livan can get Ankiel to get out of this early tight spot.

**********************

Delayed apparently.  I wish it would rain in Minnesota.  It's pushing 100 here today.

**********************

10-0 Philadelphia now in the 4th.  That's about done.

You know you're in trouble when...

...you're cleanup hitter is Fernando Tatis.

This team has a 140 million dollar payroll, and our 4 hitter is hitting .250 with 2 home runs. wow.

trouble

And I thought it was going to be:

...when you're heading to the 7th inning and you've only had two baserunners (well, one (Castillo) 2x).

This stinks

On the ESPN broadcast on Monday night, one of the announcers said that the Mets had the Major League's best record this season for winning the first game of every series. I forget the exact win-loss ratio but it was impressive. It's really frustrating that we can't follow through and use that momentum. When you think about how we've bounced back and won games after horrific losses over the past couple of seasons. Why can't we back up a win with another win???

rubber game

Here we go again with another rubber game.  The only series we've taken in recent memory was Washington.

I think the upside to everything is that Philadelphia can't possibly win with as lousy a home record as they've had, can they? That's got to catch up with them.

No rubber game

this is a 4 game series. we are in the middle of a 10 game home stretch. Today and tommorow are vs. the Cards before the Yanks take the bus over for the weekend.

Figures...I even thought to myself that if I wrote that without looking at the schedule that it would turn out to be a 4-gamer.  Ah well, I like game 3 just fine so far.

I didn't even know Nick Evans was back and he's already got a 2-run HR.  And look at Wright with these leadoff hits.

A long loong time ago in a galaxy far far away......

.........The Mets had a 7 game winning streak......

ahhh

WHEN was our last laugher?  Heading toward a double-digit win.

*******

10-0 and we're sending up PH's....  11-0.  Just let a pitcher take a hack.

Easy Wins

Hard to come by in recent weeks. So far so good tonight. Six more nice innings from Nieve. This guy is a life saver.

Nieve

Another start and he could've gone for Pitcher of the Month.

Mets Win, Phils Lose

When is the last time that happened? Actually pretty recently but it all helps. I see the team put up these runs (11) tonight and think that there's some hope to get back on track soon. The real challenge is going to be following this game up with a win tomorrow afternoon. The Mets have not won a series or even two in a row for more than two weeks.

Nieve, Evans, and Bats

Nieve seems to have locked down a rotation spot with that last start. He has allowed 2 runs and 10 hits in 20 innings since getting the call. Until he falters, it looks like Maine and Olly will be battling one another for the rights to Tim Redding's spot, as our pitching rotation is actually doing very well right now.

Evans looks to be our 1b of the future, and with Delgado out it is good to get him some reps over there instread of sticking him in the OF. In a few years I think he can be a .275 hitting, 20 homer guy if he gets regular playing time, and he had a great spring training.

An 11-0 win was really something this team needed. With all the adversity we've faced, and not having won a series in 2 weeks and recently losing 15-0 to the Yanks, a blowout in the opposite direction was in order even without the core of our lineup. This is an encouraging game, especially for me, because...

...I am going to Italy today. And I won't be back for 12 days. So hopefully while I'm having a blast in Rome/Venice/Florence/Capri, the Mets will be cruising at home as well. Good luck guys. Ciao!

I love...

...getting to the office, logging on and seeing that we're up 3-2 in the 9th with K-Rod on the mound, albeit facing Pujols.  But I have faith.  And fear.

Looks like an unintentional intentional walk, all in all not a bad idea.

jmy9595's picture

scared me...

2 K's and then can't find the plate but bring on the happy recap for a series win!

AND Bastardo's going for Philadelphia against Tampa Bay.  I like that matchup.

Finally A Series Win

It's been at least 2 weeks since the Mets have had A) a series win and B) 2 wins in a row. Thank heavens they got it done today. I was very annoyed by the failure to score with the bases loaded and one out in the 8th. Ryan Church blew if first by striking out after working a 3-0 count. Then Tatis (who is basically a vortex at this point) popped out. No matter. K-Rod got it done. I chalk up the walks to strategic pitching. He didn't want to challenge Pujols with a one run lead.

Another very big positive was an improved Johan Santana. Two good starts in a row after some tough ones where he didn't look good. This team is busted up and really unrecognizable from what it was at the beginning of the season. That doesn't mean that they can't scrap and fight to get some wins and stay in this thing until the stars get back in the lineup.

As a bonus, right now Tampa Bay is thrashing the Phillies 10-4 in the 7th and the Yankees are leading the Braves 10-6 in the 7th.
