The Dropped Pop Up Cast

Amazin Moments #98

Wow, what a month it has been in the world of the New York Mets. We’ve had injuries. We’ve had drama. And we had a crushing loss the other night against our cross town rivals the Yankees. In this episode I break down the reaction to Luis Castillo’s dropped pop-up. And I talk about the wave of injuries the Mets have had over the past few weeks.

The Dropped Pop Up Cast

Good show. The background noise wasn't bad.

Friday night was horrible. From my perspective the Phillies losing to the Red Sox was a source of comfort and solace rather then additional pain.

During Saturday's game the FOX announcers were discussing Sheff complaints about the back of his knee and desire to get an MRI. I don't understand how the Mets let him DH on Saturday with that being the case.

It's strange how the Mets have been so injured. It's like they are on an adult entertainment film, they are so banged up. I think it goes back to the series against the Washington Nationals, when the Nats came into town with a flu. Since then the Mets have been dropping like flies.

By the way, this is the Cub's dropped ball that I kept referring to: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/baseball/mlb/news/1998/09/23/cubs_brewers/

banged up

Banged up indeed, ha.  I've been too stressed to listen to a podcast about recent activities.  I will soon.

Here's a question:

Which are you most concerned/upset about:

a) Castillo's popup and subsequent throw to nowhere

b) losing to the Yankees 15-0

c) Santana's health?

Santana's Health

Bad losses and bad plays can be put behind us. Injuries continue to hurt us in the future. And considering that any injury to Johan Santana would be in addition to all of the others then you see how serious it is. If Johan needs to go DL they better do it now while there's still time to rebound when everybody gets healthy.

Brian Bruney

Almost through the podcast now, I too was wondering "who the hell is Brian Bruney" right before you said the same thing, perfect.

Most concerned about

A bothers me the most

B doesn't bother me much

C doesn't bother me because I figure he's having a rough week.

Santana's Rough Week

I don't know Alar. Johan has not been the same in his last 3 starts. Over 16 innings he's given up 24 hits and 17 earned runs. Actually the couple of starts before that weren't so hot either. I knew he couldn't stay as hot as he was over the first six weeks but now he's slid into average pitcher territory. I think that Santana has something physically wrong with him right now.

past few starts

I think we didn't notice as much how poorly Santana threw in his past few starts because his pitching was overshadowed by the fact that he got some run support at last, which sometimes was, sometimes wasn't enough.

B bothers me the least,

B bothers me the least, it's a game and it's done.  We'll play better at Citi, I hope.

A bothers me the second-most but it's more the throw than the popup.  Anyone can drop a popup, but it's what you do in reaction to it that makes or breaks the game.

C bothers me the most.  A bad week would be fine, but his past few starts have been lousy and he's only out there once every 5 days to put things right.  And is it an injury?

If

I agree with the other posters here that if this isn't just a bad week, but indicitive of an injury then that would be a bigger concern.

Actually, if he's injured also, there might not be anything to worry about - the season might just be over. If he is injured, he'd better come clean before the Mets make a stupid trade to "win now".
