As I'm writing this the Mets put a measly run on the board in support of another stellar effort by Johan Santana. Is it possible that we face the best of the best pitching for the opposing team EVERY TIME Johan pitches? For heavens sake, Chan Ho Park came into the game with an ERA of about 7.00. Meanwhile Santana now has an ERA under 1. He should be undefeated at this point in the season. The Mets better hold on and win this one. Seriously!
Maybe Johan pitches better because he has to or knows he won't get any support. Maybe the defense has too good a time watching him from the field, then forgets to hit. Who knows. Great win, a rare clean win on ESPN--I hardly ever seem to watch a solid win on national TV here. He's looking good for pitcher of the month at this rate.
It's good to see the Mets sweep the Braves and Phillies back to back. I would have preffered to see Frankie not have to work tonight but a win is a win and a save is a save. David Wright is really starting to come along and it looks like this could be his breakout month. I'm still a little worried about Jose. Granted he hit a HR but still went 1-5 and is still in a very deep slump. But as long as Wright and Beltran stay hot and we get solid performances out of the starters like we did tonight there's no doubt we can have a big run.
It's always great to win 4 straight, but to do it against the Braves and Phillies is especially sweet. We are 3-1 vs. the Phils this year and the one loss was in the 11th inning on a walk, so its not like they really earned it. Pelfrey turned in a great game after some first inning trouble by throwing 7 strong innings, and frankie came through again or us by closing out the game. We have a winning record now and head off to face the Pirates this weekend to hopefully gain even more ground and maybe even take over 1st place in the division. Jon Niese gets the start tonight, and there's a lot of pressure on him to try and keep his rotation spot over Ken Takahashi or Tim Redding. He is probably our best pitching prospect so lets hope he handles the MLB pressure well and can hold down our rotation until Perez gets his act together!

You've really got to admire the fact that K-Rod has saved each of the last four games on consecutive nights. That means he won't be available tonight so the Mets, if need be, will look to Bobby Parnell and JJ Putz to get it done.
Four in a row is a good start to a nice (dare I say) win streak. Let's keep it going versus the Pirates this weekend.
Right now the Mets are one game behind their record at the same point in 2008. I'm using 2008 as a bellwheter because I think if we can play three or more games ahead of the 2008 record then we're in the playoffs. It's still early, but it's nice to see the Mets getting back into the mix by beating the Braves (at Turner Field of all places) and our arch-rival the Phillies. David Wright is heating up too. That home run to dead center last night was a thing of beauty.
