A wild one tonight in Cincinnati. Mike Pelfrey struggled early but did pretty good. The bullpen gave up some runs. Thank heavens that the Mets scored a few runs themselves. The ninth inning was scary. Frankie Rodriquez struggled and couldn't throw consistent strikes. Looked like he was on his way out of it til Delgado made a boneheaded play and came off the bag on a play at first. A walk later and the bases were loaded with one out. Rolaids time! K-Rod went behind 2-0 on the last two batters but gutted it out. Not pretty but a win and I'll take it!
I think the 3 players i got the most info on this series were krod, olliver perez, and daniel murphy. murphy looks to be a solid consistent ballplayer who has a knack for getting on base and has some nice power upside. I am much more confident in his abilities after this opening series than I was in the offseason, especially due to some respectable defensive play, which was supposedly his weakness. We also got our first glimpse of K-rod, and I liked what i saw. His stuff looks real sharp, and while he struggled a tad with his location in his second sae opportunity and nearly blew it he gutted it out and didn't allow a run to cross teh plate, much like he did many times last season. Delgado's error didn't help him either, and regardless of how pretty it looks a save is a save and a win is a win so I got a good first impression of K-rod in his first 2 chances. Not so, however, of Oliver Perez. He looked great for the first 2 innings and then he cmopletely fell apart, and he has had an abysmal spring training. He let up 8 runs in just over 4 innings today, and we need him to be far more consistent if we are to rely on him as our 3rd starter. Lets hope Maine's new delivery pays dividends tommorow as we try to cool down the read hot, division leading, undefeated Marlins.

Oliver Perez was really scary. He looked horrible. He hasn't progressed over the last few years because he's till prone to complete collapses on the mound. I feel much better about Pelfrey. Pelfrey got off to a rough start but settled down. Perez on the other hand just let it all slip away.
