It's official. Alex Rodriguez juiced it up for three years with the Texas Rangers.
The New York Post reports: "Alex Rodriguez today broke his silence on the steroids question, telling ESPN that he used performance-enhancing drugs when he was with the Texas Rangers."
So what? Well, A-Rod put up some monster numbers during those years. He hit 52, 57 and 47 homers from 2001 - 2003. Before Texas A-Rod never hit more than 42 home runs. He came to the Yankees in 2004 an hit a paltry (for A-Rod) 36 homers. Perhaps he parted ways with his old dealer. He made a strong (medically enhanced?)comeback in 2007 with 56 HR and 156 RBI. Old habits die hard ya know.
Look, there's no denying that A-Rod has natural talent. But his hall of fame numbers are now tainted for all time. He's a lock for 600 homers and maybe a whole lot more. But will the sports writers vote him into the hall.
At this point the whole brouhaha doesn't amount to a hill of beans for Met fans since that circus (thankfully) lives in the Bronx. I do know that a lot of Mets fans (myself included) wanted the Mets to sign A-Rod when he was being shopped by the Rangers.
So here's the question. Knowing what you know now, would you still be happy if the Mets had signed A-Rod?
