What else is new?

I can't believe they got shut out today. They should have made a couple of moves at the deadline. They could've made a better push for Manny and someone to help out in the bullpen. If Omar Minaya thinks this team is good enough to make it to the world series... he won't have a job next year.

No Deadline Deal

It's hard to know what the situation was with the GMs on trade day. So I'm going to give Omar the benefit of the doubt. I think getting Manny would have been tough because we had no outfielder to offer in return. For the most part the Mets are tapped out in the farm system and that makes it tough to make any deal. Trades can still happen but we'll always run into the issue of not having anyone to give that people want. Seems like Lastings Milledge was the final bargaining chip that the Mets held.

Same Old Mets?

The Mets have ten games where they should really clean house. The Astros, Nationals and Marlins are very beatable. If these are the new Mets then we'll go at least 7-3 during this stretch. If last night's game was any indication then it could be a tougher stretch than that.

Yes, Aaron Heilman stunk it up. Pedro Martinez (3 runs in 5 innings) didn't do too hot either. But the Mets were in the game when he departed. The Mets failed to score runs in key situations. Runner on second and none out. Bases loaded and no one out. A team playing well works at least three runs from those two situations. We really need Ryan Church back in the lineup.

bullpen again

Santana leaves with a three run lead, then Joe Smith lets one in and Wanger let's in two to tie the game and we're about to go into extra innings. It seems as if the bullpen blows it every other time that Johan pitches. i don't know what's going on with them but they have been a glaring weakness all season long, none of them can stay consistent. we really need to make some changes at the end of this year.

Deja Vu

Deja vu all over again. Oh that bullpen. It's like trying to stop a bleeding artery with a band aid. The Mets are now 7-8 since the All-Star break. Johan Santana can't get a win. I give Johan credit because the Mets should win just about every game he pitches. Schoeneweis gave up the homer in the eighth inning.

Crappy Road Trip

What a crappy road trip for the Mets. I was thinking four wins out of six and we got one out of six. Not good. The only saving grace, if there really is one, is the fact that the next six games are against the Padres and the Marlins. We should be able to sweep the Padres and we can also exact revenge from the Marlins. So things could look very different a week from now. After that we have fourteen games against beatable teams. The Mets must can win 15 out of 20 by my estimates. The question is, "Will they?"

Need more clutchnessnessness...ness

The Mets really need to improve their numbers with RISP to have any hope of coming back. Granted, the bullpen has blown many leads but it seems as if the Mets are batting 1 for 12 with RISP every other day. This is not a typical sign of a playoff-bound team.

Broken Clutch

This was the problem before the run in early July. Too many times the Mets have failed to score with the bases loaded and none out. Bases loaded and none out should lead to a minimum of two runs. You don't even need a hit to get two runs in that situation. RISP and none out should be almost automatic. Again, a hit is not required. The hitters need much more patience at the plate.
