Alou Is Done

Moises Alou's torn left hamstring signals the end of his short, but dynamic career with the Mets. It's time to move on.
I'd like to personally thank Moises for the effort that he put forth with the Mets over the last two seasons. I'm serious about that. Moises is old school. He always showed up ready to play. And it always seemed to crush him when he couldn't play due to injury.
Moises owns a piece of Mets history as a result of his 30 game hitting streak last season. No Met has ever hit in as many games consecutively in a season. It's amazing that Moises did that at 41.
On another note I'd like to extend congratulations to David Wright, who will replace an injured Alfonso Soriano on the All Star team. David deserves the recognition. Although I must admit that I wouldn't mind seeing David get an extra couple of days rest.

Good Job to Wright and Moises
Good for wright that he made it onto the team. i think the "every team must have a player" rule is all that jipped reyes out of a spot on the team, but oh well.
i agree it is time for alou to retire. i always loved alou, i think everybody did. i was too young to remember when the giants had all three alou brothers as their starting OF, but that must have been pretty crazy. seeing the last of them go is a sad day for baseball. but i wholeheartedly agree that alou is the most injury prone player i have ever seen, and the fact that he is out for the year tells me it's time to move on as well. release him, take your freed up salary cap money and make a move on bonds!
