We need a strong bat and more depth in the outfield. Even if Moises Alou returns it may not be until after the all-star break. And who knows if he can make it to the playoffs. Plus we need someone to counter the lack of power from Delgado and Wright of late.
Mets need
The Mets currently have a at least 3 starters that you feel comfortable with... which is good enough to win the world series.
The Mets currently have a solid bullpen; relievers are difficult to gauge (anyone remember Mel Rojas or the closer Steve Phillips got us from Oakland?).
I kind of like the way Gomez is progressing, and I fear if we make a trade for an outfielder he will lose his opportunity... but, the Mets could use some outfield/bench/hitting insurance because Alou is out and Delgado recovering from his new child being born.
So, if the Mets make a trade for this season, I think it'll be for an outfielder, BUT it's not a very strong need, so the Mets should NOT break the bank getting this possible outfielder.
So I vote a qualified "Outfielder".

I think that yes our starting pitching has been great this year but I think that with Jorge Sosa slowly being pulled back down to earth a starter is someting we will need, one that can go deep into games and save the bullpen.
And if we just so happen to trade Scott Schoeweis in the process, so be it.
