It is obvious that Jerry won't be around after this season. So who is going to be running this team in 2011?
The 2 names being mentioned are Joe Torre and Wally Backman.
Who should get it and why?

A Player To Be Named Later
I really don't know right now. Joe Torre has a long history in New York as both a player and a manager for both the Mets and the Yankees. So you know he can handle the situation. I'm not so sure about Wally Backman. He has limited experience in the minor leagues. I'd like to see him in a major league coaching position first. I think I'd also like to see Alex Cora as a coach. Finally, I think that HoJo has to go. Sorry. I know that people like him but he's the hitting coach and the Mets' batting has been atrocious this season. The younger players are the ones that HoJo should affect the most and those players (Davis, Tejada, F-Mart) have struggled way too much for my taste.
Bring back Bobby Valentine!
Hi,
I say bring Bobby V back. I think he'd be great with this club but I don't know how long he would last with Minaya and the ownership....
Phil
Bobby V
Bobby V makes more sense than Torre, who I say has zero record of working with young talent or turning around a losing team. I grew up watching the late 70s Mets, nothing special there. I too could've sat like a bump on a log, looked bored and talked to Don Zimmer for years and watched his plug-in all-stars win Series after Series. Not impressed. Bobby V at least seems to get something more out of average players (think Agbayani, Mora, that type). I don't see any reason to assume Backman can manage here. About the only thing I'd do is let him play 2B over Castillo.
Davey
As long as we're talking about names from the past, why isn't there (I haven't heard any anyway, but I'm in MN) any talk about bringing back Davey Johnson if we're reaching to the past? Not like he's too old to manage or is out of the game--he's some kind of advisor for the Nats. And he just went into the Mets HOF a few weeks ago, so his ego should be stroked some and there aren't burnt bridges.
Yeah, I've checked out on this season...just glanced over and saw Thole had a game-winning 10th inning HR, nice but ehhhh. Meanwhile I'm at work and have DVDs from the 1986 playoffs on in the background and can I say how creepy it is to see Ted Williams and his then-18-yo-son (now the Cryogenic Twins) sitting in the stands??
Bringing Back Davey
Sure, why not. If the Mets are considering Torre they should also consider Davey.
and yet
I still haevn't seen his name pop up on any possibles list. Bob Melvin's there. Gee he could be the Art Howe/Jeff Torborg of the 2010s. Throw out another name...how about LaRussa?
