Cliff Lee

This seems to be a growing source of speculation and worthy of its own blog.  In Minneapolis there's all kinds of talk in the media that the Twins need to keep spending money to bring Lee here (maybe he's going to tell Mauer how to hit his 4th HR of the year?), but I think the moves the Mets are making, particularly involving catchers (Thole, Barrett signed to minor league contract, etc.) signal that the Mets are putting the pieces in place to get it done.  What are they saying in NY?

I don't know a whole lot about Lee, don't think I've ever seen him pitch, but if he's as good as he must be to generate this much speculation, then I'm all for it.  Even as a rent-a-player he'd be worth it for 2010.

Trading For A Pitcher

Lee is 7-3 with a 2.45 for the Seattle Mariners. Will be 32 years old in August. Went 14-13 last season with a 3.22 ERA and split the season between Philly and Cleveland. Went 22-3 in 2008 with a 2.54 ERA in Cleveland. If this guy is healthy he would be a strong #2. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/stats?playerId=5353

The question is what does it take to get him. If the Mariners would take Oliver Perez and a box of cracker jacks that would work for me. Not likely though.

Meanwhile I see the headline, "Manuel Prefers Mets Trade for Starter."So Jerry's game. Roy Oswalt is the other guy people are talking about as available.
