Willis

Given that Perez is here and we can't do anything about that, look at the next option.  I just saw that the Tigers are designating Dontrelle Willis and that any team that picks him up would have to pick up his $12 million contract.  If Perez clears waivers, Detroit would have 10 days to trade, release him or option him to the minors.  Could there be any upside to trading a bad contract for a bad contract and maybe we get a few decent starts out of Wliis?  Maybe at least enough to make him tradeable?  Worst case, he'd be a pinch hitter off the bench--he's got 8 HRs and 35 RBIs.

not just my idea

I posted this idea on my own, it seems to be catching steam...

Willis Traded To Arizona

It's academic now that Willis has been traded to the D'Backs. They're too very similar pitchers. Still young and definitely promising. I wouldn't have been against it since right now we're getting less than nothing from Oliver Perez. In fact, he's holding up the return of Jon Niese. So he's creating even bigger problems. I knew Oliver Perez was flaky but I didn't think the situation would turn into the train wreck that it is.

Niese

Jerry said Niese is going Saturday for what it's worth.

Perez Refusal Still Hurts

Via the Mets Cetera blog:

Perez does not accept a Minor League assignment before the Mets activate Jon Niese from the disabled list on Saturday, he will handicap the team in a new and troubling way. Rather than demote Perez, who is not being used in any high- or even medium-leverage situations, the Mets will have to option Jenrry MejiaRyota Igarashi or Raul Valdes to Triple-A Buffalo, or perhaps even designate Elmer Dessens for assignment. All of those pitchers are useful to the Mets. Perez, right now, is not.
