Who else is loving our upcoming schedule? We start a three game series at home against Washington today, followed by three against Florida at home, then in June we have four at Pittsburgh, three at Washington, and three in Philly before it starts getting tough. These next sixteen games could be the time for the Mets to blow up and head into the Subway series with some momentum. A 12-4 stretch would put us at 35-24, which is just about at .600. The way our starting pitchig has been improving, along with Parnell's gradual emergence in the bullpen, we might be able to do something like 14-2, provided that a few bats start heating up and we don't beat ourselves with bad defense and/or decisions. Once we get Reyes back, I'd love to see the Mets get slightly more aggresive around the bases; as Rob likes to say, speed never goes in a slump. If we try to limit (or eliminate) our defensive mistakes, it's certainly doable. I believe that had it not been for the terrible defensive and some iffy calls by Manuel, the Mets could have come out of this road trip at around 8-2 even with all our injuries.
So, what are everyone's thoughts on these next 16 games? Anything you'd like to see the Mets do more? Do less? Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?

Schedule And Expectations
I don't get too excited about schedules where the teams appear to be weak or at least weaker than the Mets. We've seen in the past that the team can let us down in these situations when they're healthy. And now they're pretty banged up. With Reyes questionable and the patchwork of second stringers that we're sending out there I would be happy with 10-6, which is still an improvement over our record so far.
Injuries Limiting Our Potential
I want to be confident in the Mets as they head out on this easy patch of the schedule, but for some reason I want to just take it one game at a time. the unfair thing about being a high payroll powerhouse like the Mets is that every game you lose is viewed by the fans as a "game we should have won". Whenever we lose to the Nationals or Pirates or something, we Mets fans get outraged that we would embarrass ourselves to lesser teams, but the fact is that even the worst MLB teams will win about 60 games. Those games have to come against somebody! And with the Mets roster currently looking more like our AAA affiliate than our opening day roster, I cant be over-confident heading into any game.
so I think that if Reyes, Beltran, Church, Cora, and Schneider start to heal up over the next week or so and the reserve guys we have in behind them can handle the load until then, we definetly have the POTENTIAL to go on a huge tear. but with Ramon Martinez as our SS, i wouldnt take anything for granted just yet.
14-2?
I'd be delirious with a 14-2 stretch, will settle for 10-6, 11-5.
Yeah, I know
14-2 was a pretty bold goal I suppose, but we're in good shape. I thought 12-4 would put us in great shape, though something like 11-5 was probably the most likely of outcomes. However, after this sweep of the Nats, if we win each of the next three series, we would end up at 13-3 with probably a 2-3 game lead. Hopefully, the Mets can continue to get things done and pick up some momentum for when some of our injured players start coming back. Would I call winning the next three series a longshot? Not at all, but the Mets must continue to play smart, (for the most part) mistake-free baseball. We're a half game up and 36-24 is a good goal to aim for.
Im Going to the Game Tonight
I'm driving all the way from Philly up to Citi Field tonight to watch the Mets play the Marlins. I'll be sitting in the nosebleeds right behind home plate, so I'm pretty up but I'll have a good view of the action. Any chance that anybody else is going tonight too? It's not sold out yet. Not that we'd meet up or anything just wondering. I never got the chance to go to Shea, so it'l be nice cheering WITH the home crowd for once instead of being the odd man out at CBP. Im hoping to leave ealry (actually in like 2 hours) so we (my Dad and I) can get there even if we hit traffic and maybe tour the premises a bit before the game starts. Anyone been there yet? What should I expect? Anybody have any food reccomendations?
