The Mets have reportedly sign Francisco Rodriguez to a three-year, $37-million deal today. While the money may have been a little more than I would have liked, I think this was a move that the Mets needed to get done, especially when you consider that the 9th inning was what kept us out of the postseason again this year. I still like that Omar is making these big moves though, these are moves that I feel must be made to put last season behind us.
Your thoughts?

I Like It
Oh man, I've been sick as a dog the last couple of days. Didn't even have the strength to post about the K-Rod developments.
I think it's a very good pickup for the Mets. We needed a closer in the worst way. Frankie Rodriquez fills that need without question. The terms are better than I would have expected. So I've got no problem with the 3yrs and 37 million.
I've heard concerns expressed about K-Rod's size (he's listed as 6ft. 195lbs.), pitching motion and recent drops in pitch velocity. I look at the actual numbers from 2008 and think it's worth the gamble because he will be only 27 when the Mets start the 2009 season. Contrast that with Billy Wagner who was 34 when he threw his first pitch for the Mets.
Now Omar needs to go out and get a starting pitcher and a left fielder.
Great move
we blew 29 saves last year. teh phillies brad lidge blew 0. and they won the division by 3 games. now, we have a younger version fo brad lidge as our closer and presumably that gap will be closed. even if frankie's velocity is down, he won't triple his 7 blown saves from last year! and even if he did, that would only be 21, still enough to in theory bridge teh three game difference and then some. and his agent was originally asking for 5 years, 75 million dollars, so this was a good buy. very good move that gets us another star, more momentum, and more confidence in shutting the door.
