omar is not doing much. getting puts and k-rod is nice, but we're not done yet and he needs to wake up. the yankees are spending like crazy, getting CC, Burnett, and teixara. to put it in perspective, the royals and marlins' payrolls COMBINED equal less than 15 million dollars. the yankees' is 209 million. wow. anyway, assuming the yankees are finally done spending, the red sox still have a lot of money and could use a pitcher, which means they will probably be our main compeition for lowe. we should wait until febuary when he is desperate and then resign perez for cheap i think to bolster that rotation, but as long as we get one of wither lowe, perez, or ben sheets i am happy with our rotation.
the only other free agent i am looking at with longing is manny ramirez. since the yankees have gotten 3 mega-stars already, they can't afford manny. and manny burned his bridges coming out of boston, they'd never take him back. the dodgers have taken back their offer, and while they are still an option they aren't desperate for a Left Feilder. really, we are the only big market team still in the running who still needs a left feilder! and since manny's options are running out, super-agent scott boras is sure to turn to the mets as potential suitors, and may even be willing to lower the price to something the mets can afford. and omar reportedly loves the guy and wants to make a move.so why haven't we signed him if he is such a perfect fit? because Fred Wilpon hates him. he thinks he is just too loudmouthed and bad for a teams chemistry. i don't understand that logic because he sure helped the dodgers' team chemistry last year to the tune of a .340 batting average, 53 rbi's and 17 homers all in less than half a season with them! so while i really hope the mets can get him and i think he is the perfect fit in New York, especially when we are currently relying on Fernando tatis/nick evans/daniel murphy, i don't see it happening.
manny, lowe, sheets, and perez. we need one of those guys at least, and i listed them in the order i would prefer.

More Spending This Week
MLB.com is reporting that the Mets, "...intend to make offers early this week to at least two and probably three free-agent pitchers -- Derek Lowe, Oliver Perez and Randy Wolf -- in hopes of signing one of them."

There was a time when $58
There was a time when $58 million (the Royals payroll) was a healthy one. Those days are long gone. I see that the Phillies clocked in at just under $100 million which is less than half of the Yankees payroll. Just goes to show that it's not all about spending. It's about putting the right mix of high impact and role players on the field.
another $10 million
And maybe they could've taken us in the season series.
Pat the bat
A big rumour i'm hearing here in england is that the mets will move for pat burrell to fill left field. Also i'm hearing that they won't end up getting Orlando Hudson.
Burrell
Whether or not Burrell can add anything to the Mets is almost immaterial if we can avoid having to face him. Addition by subtraction really.
