I'm Back... What did I miss?

I left on July 16th, the final day before play resumed after the all-star break, with the mets back a half game and on a 9 game winning streak. all i know now is that we are three games back and on a 4 game losing streak, and maine is on the DL and wagner may be soon to follow. sounds like things haven't been going well. but then again, i wasn't here, so fill me in. how have we been playing? have we been motivatred and playing with heart, but have just got a few bad breaks? have we completely collapsed after the break and are lucky to be as close as we are? somewhere in the middle? i know which games we won, but not howe we won them or other big news. i also came back to find the manny ramirez, jason bay, mark teixara, and ken griffey jr. all have new teams! i suppose teixara's trade doesn't make it any less likely for the mets to snatch him from free agency in the offseason, so that deal i am mute on. but with our corner OF problems i think i would have been very helpful if we could have snatched up bay or maybe even manny! i would love having manny on our team. anyway, somebody please sum uop the past 18 days for me, starting with the reds series.

Good Time To Be Away

How have we been playing? Not too good. The bullpen has been awful. The offense has let go too many scoring chances.

Have we been motivated and playing with heart?I think the team is motivated. They're just not executing.

have we completely collapsed after the break? Not a complete collapse. But we haven't played well. We can take solace in the fact that the Mets are still in the thick of the playoff race.

Somebody please sum up the past 18 days for me. The team has generally been mediocre. Johan Santana has pitched great but only got one win. Mets split four with the Reds. The first game of the Phillies series was a crushing loss caused by the bullpen collapse. Mets came back to win the next two. Took two of three from the Cardinals but should have swept. The Mets came back 2x in the Saturday night game, including game tying homer by Tatis in the 9th, but missed a lot of chances in extra innings before Albert Pujols hit 2-run homer in the 14th.

The Mets then went on the road and lost two of three to the Marlins. Then went to Minute Maid Park and got juiced for a sweep by the Astros. Ramon Castro got his ankle sprained on a crazy play at the plate on Saturday night. Ryan Church is a question mark. Pedro Martinez is on an 80-pitch count. John Maine to the DL. Billy Wagner probably to the DL. Etc. Etc.

On the bright side, Carlos Delgado has been hitting. And it looks like Beltran may be heating up too.

Like I said. A good time to be away.

Sounds about what i expected

Looking at the numbers, i could tell that delgado had been heating up. he's hitting .270 with 23 homers! reyes and beltran appear to be playing well too, and our starting pitching certainly isn't the problem. but our ever constant problems are coming back to haunt us...injuries, RISP convertion rates, and bullpen. i hate losing the close games like the phillies game one, the astros 10 inning game, and the pujols 14 inning game. those three losses are al that seperates us from first place right now! the philies are the opposite of us...they convert on offense when it counts, have a great bullpen, and are relatively healthy, but the have no starting pitching other than cole and as a whole their bats have apparently cooled down. anyway, thanks for the summary.
