It seems like everybody on the other post agreed the mets need to improve their corner outfeilding positions, as church will not risk his career to rush a return to a pesky head injury and alou can't stay healthy (btw, alou just pulled his hammy diving for a ball in his AA binghampton rehap start, eraasing any chance he will be back before the break, even though he was scheduled to be back by Friday. point proven). i for one am not comfortable rotating endy chavez, marlon anderson, fernando tatis and whatever too-young minor league callup we can find for the remainder of the season, and would like to make a move to bolster our options at the corner outfeild position. so everybody put on your omar minaya thinking caps and try to come up with some possible acquisitions! here are a few i have thought of, tell me what you think.
1. Andruw Jones, currently on the dodgers.
He has sucked for 2 straight years now, and this year he ahs had some injury problems, but in my mind that only makes him cheaper. for a guy who used to be one of the best young players in the game and who is now in his prime, i just can't see his struggles continuing. supposing he turns it around, he could bring us some power and speed and great feilding, and we could probably get him fairly cheap off the dodgers, who are fed up with his injury prone-ness and his poor play. could be a steal, but he is also pretty risky.
2. Coco Crisp, currently on the BoSox
Very fast, excellent in the feild, respectable hitter, and in his prime. Crisp was lobbying for a trade in the early season and while it didn't happen, he never repealed his request and i think the sox would happily deal him. he is capable of a starting job but becasue the sox have rising star jacoby ellsbury they prefered to usher him in and use crisp as an all-OF backup. he reminds me of endy chavez, only he's a better batter.
3. Barry Bonds, free agent
Oh boy, i can hear your moans. he can be a media problem, and he will demand some limelight, but if there's one team that is used to heavy media attention it is the mets. we have been all over the papers for all the wrong reasons this year, and he might draw some of the attack away from the mets and on to himself. listen, i know he is not a very likable guy and won't be a fan favorite, but the guy can get it done. despite being rested for most of the road games over a certain span last year when the team did not want him to break or tie the record away from home, and despite having frequent days off for knee issues, he hit .276 last year with 28 home runs. minus about .10 points in average, that is about what david wright is on pace for this year. he brings power to a team that needs power, and ssince he is a free agent we don't even have to give anything up to get him. if you are the GM of a team desperate for a corner outfeilder, and you have lots of money to sign one, and there is a free agent corner OF who is a consistent 30 homer guy and a future hall of famer, you would be crazy not to sign him! it is no secret that if the man did not have the name "bonds" on the back of his jersey he would have been snatched up before the season even started and had many offers pouring in. you don't have to like the man, but the numbers fit and i really think he could help our team, so i am in favor of signing him.
see this article for further argument for bonds.

Corner OF options
We need the X man, Xavier Nady. Pittsburgh will give him up to us for a reasonable price (i.e. not F-Mart) and he is hot this year. Plus he knows he way around Shea. What's not to love?
He's hot, but perhaps too hot
I think xavier's performance this year is a little too good to be true. last i checked he was hitting like .330...and frankly i don't think he is a good enough player to keep that kind of performance up. he doesn't bring a ton of power, although he can knock a few out, and he isn't strikingly fast either. his defense is passable but not exceptional. i think he is a good option but we could do better. good suggestion.
I Like Nady
Xavier Nady is hitting .320 with 12 HR and 55 RBI. He turned in .278 with 20 HR and 72 RBI last year. I liked him when he was with the Mets. It's unfortunate that we had to trade him.
